About the 164th Infantry Remembrance Association
The 164th Infantry Remembrance Association is a North Dakota–based nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, recreating, and educating the public about the history of the 164th Infantry Regiment of the North Dakota National Guard during World War II. Our mission is rooted in honoring the men and women of North Dakota’s Greatest Generation through historically accurate interpretation, public education, and respectful remembrance.
We are committed to authenticity, accuracy, and non-partisan historical interpretation. Our members conduct extensive research using period accounts, written histories, historic sites, uniforms, equipment, and material culture to faithfully portray both military and civilian life of the 1940s. Authenticity is not a fixed goal, but an ongoing pursuit—one we continually refine as new research and understanding emerge.
The Association brings together military interpreters and civilian portrayals to present a complete and human view of the wartime experience. Military members operate as an organized unit during events, following historically appropriate drill, discipline, and structure, while civilian members interpret the lives of those affected by the war beyond the battlefield. Together, we strive to provide the public with a deeper understanding of the hardships, service, and sacrifice endured by the communities and citizen-soldiers of World War II.
Organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the 164th Infantry Remembrance Association operates exclusively for educational and historical purposes. We do not engage in political campaigning and maintain a strict commitment to unbiased interpretation. Through living history programs, educational outreach, partnerships with historic sites and parks, and community engagement, we seek not only to remember the legacy of the 164th Infantry Regiment—but to ensure that its story continues to inform, inspire, and endure for future generations.
