CCC to Infantry- 164th Training and Interp Day - May 2, 2026

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

MANDAN, ND — On Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, join us at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park for a living history event focusing on the experience of North Dakotans in the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s, which was integral in developing our state and national parks!

This event will highlight the average CCC enrollee’s experience while also explaining the connection between CCC involvement and military service for North Dakotans in the period leading up to WWII. As the nation reeled through the woes of the Great Depression, these North Dakotans would bring many National and State Parks to life in ways we still use today. Likewise, the military lifestyle of the CCC would prove to be invaluable for thousands of North Dakotans as the nation prepared for war in 1941.

Come explore the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps and learn about the importance of the CCC in the history of Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, North Dakota, and the nation as it prepared for World War II in the early 1940s. Expect ongoing interpretation regarding material and administrative aspects of the CCC and the ND National Guard and specific educational speaking programs on the topic!

The event begins at 9 AM and concludes by 5 PM on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026.

All listed programs above will take place in the lawn space in front of the Visitor Center/adjacent to the Visitor Center parking lot unless verbally announced during the event.
